Texas dairy emerges from ‘bleeding edge’ with new commercially viable manure treatment system
Dairyman Donald De Jong doesn’t like being on the ‘bleeding edge’ of cow technology, but that’s where he and his dairy have been for the last four years. His Natural Prairie Dairy in Hartley, Texas, has been piloting a new technology that will process raw cow manure into purified water, aqueous ammonia and a concentrated powder fertilizer. He presented this week at Global Dairy Expo and said the technology – called Varcor – is ready to go commercial in 2022.
