Congratulations to Hoof Strong that moved from a medium-sized company into the large category and to CattleEye that moved into the medium-sized group after being acquired by GEA.
Welcome to the following companies that have been added since the last version:
Small - Companies defined as technology start-ups whose innovation is touching fewer than 100,000 cows.
Agteria Biotech, Barnwell Bio, Biogenesis, Biotangents, Cattleytics, DigiCow Africa, EyeBreed, Flow, Forever Feed Technologies, Herd-i, iClassifier, Kalix, Maxximilk, Nilimo, Ruminant Biotech, RumiWatch, Udderways, Vence, Vet Vision AI
Medium - Companies defined as early adoption companies who are touching between 100,000 and 1,000,000 cows.
Ambrook, CleverCow, DairySmart, MilkSat
Large - Companies working with dairy technology – either in research, development or acquisition – whose products touch more than 1,000,000 cows.
During the unveiling of the new poster on Jan. 15 in a joint webinar between Progressive Dairy and IFCN, I also introduced and defined 11 technology categories. Those categories are:
Activity monitoring – Technologies that monitor a cow’s behavior or vital signs
Business management – Technologies used to manage the finances and external transactions of a dairy farm
People management – Technologies used to train, track and manage the people that work on dairy farms
Facilities – Technologies that are physically installed on-farm EXCEPT those in the milking parlor (see milking equipment category)
Feed – Technologies or advanced feed additives (feeds that bypass or are specifically designed to manipulate the natural function of a cow’s rumen) for the feeding of confined dairy cows
Grazing – Technologies for the feeding of grazing dairy cows
Herd health – Technologies related to the health monitoring and treatment of dairy cows
Herd management and hoof health – Technologies used in the day-to-day management of dairy cows
Milk quality – Technologies related to monitoring and improving the quality of harvested milk
Milking equipment – Technologies used in the milking parlor to monitor cows or harvest milk
Reproduction – Technologies to monitor or improve the efficiency of cattle reproduction and cattle genetics
The presentation also identified 35 types of technologies being used on dairies and 52 use cases or solutions for technology application on dairies.
Watch for future updates on dairy farm technology categories and use cases throughout the year in these reports.
