3D printed sensor could improve on-farm diagnosis of subclinical hypocalcemia
Researchers work to translate cow vocalizations
Researchers recently showed a sensor created with a 3D printer is a highly selective test for subclinical hypocalcemia that provides results in under 10 seconds. They are calling the device “a promising tool” for on-farm diagnostics.

Imagine stepping into a barn and understanding exactly what cows are feeling – not by watching for obvious signs but by actually “hearing” their emotions. Artificial intelligence is allowing humans to understand cow vocalizations. Research is ongoing to determine how to translate them and implement this information to help dairy owners manage cows better.
